A Nonessential Amino Acid Can Become the Most Essential Part of Your Sex Life

Erectile dysfunction is not a jargon for men who are unable to get and keep an erection firm enough for sex. You might have seen advertisements or overheard two men talking about supplements which can help to increase sexual performance and wondered if they really work. Most of the erectile dysfunction supplements and other natural remedies have long been used in Chinese, African and other cultures. But unlike prescription medications for erectile dysfunction, herbs and herbal supplements haven’t been trusted much for some reason or other. Some can cause side effects or interact with other medications. And the amount of the active ingredient can vary greatly from product to product.
Shift From Prescribed To Herbal Remedies

There is no shortage of promising treatment options if you’re dealing with erectile dysfunction (ED), you may be willing to consider any number of promising treatment options. The quick cure amongst all which does not need any prescription is herbal supplements. Though there is a little evidence supporting the use of most supplements to effectively treat ED, one of the more common supplements marketed to help treat ED is L-arginine. It’s found naturally in meat, poultry, and fish. It can also be made synthetically in a lab. You may find supplements or combinations of supplements with L-arginine in the market or on sites like sexualsupplement.co.uk if your diet is still not sufficient.

However, not everyone may need this amino acid to get and maintain erections on sexual arousal. There could be some other lack or reason for your erectile dysfunction. In that case, taking L-arginine might not help. So before you start its dose, it is really important to know what it is capable of doing and how can you make the best use of it on taking it alone or in combination.

Using L-arginine alone

L-arginine is an amino acid that helps make proteins. It also becomes the gas nitric oxide (NO) in the body. NO is important to erectile function because this gas helps blood vessels relax so more oxygen-rich blood can circulate through your arteries. Healthy blood flow to the arteries of the penis is essential for normal erectile function. L-arginine has been studied extensively as a possible treatment for ED and many other conditions. L-arginine is a chemical building block called “an amino acid.” It is obtained from the diet and is necessary for the body to make proteins. L-arginine is found in red meat, poultry, fish, and dairy products. It can also be made in a laboratory and used as medicine.

The results suggest that the supplement, though generally safe and well-tolerated by most men, won’t help restore healthy erectile function. The Mayo Clinic gives L-arginine a C grade when it comes to scientific evidence of successful ED treatment. However, L-arginine is often combined with other supplements, which have different results.

Using L-arginine with Pycnogenol

As you read, l-arginine alone may not be able to treat your ED completely so researches further continued their study on this compound and found that a combination of L-arginine and an herbal supplement called pycnogenol may help. This was found in a study mentioned in the Journal of Sex and Marital Therapy where a significant number of men ages 25 to 45 with ED achieve normal erections without side effects by using L-arginine and pycnogenol supplements. If you have not heard about Pycnogenol before, it is a trademark name for a supplement taken from the pine bark of a tree called the Pinuspinaster. Though other ingredients may include extracts from peanut skin, grape seed, and witch hazel bark which are again all natural. You need not worry buying both L-arginine and Pycnogenol separately and using it to treat ED as there are pills like Prelox containing both which you can use as recommended by your doctor.

Better be safe than sorry

There are a number of nonprescription products which may claim to be herbal forms of Viagra. Some of these products contain ingredients in unstipulated amounts to the medical standards, which can cause dangerous side effects. Some actually contain the prescription drug but sold without prescription. For all these category of products the Food and Drug Administration has taken legal steps and banned many of them but some potentially dangerous erectile dysfunction remedies remain on the market. Don’t fall in the trap of such supplements.

Talking about L-arginine, it is used in combination with a number of over-the-counter and prescription medications for various conditions. However, it shouldn’t be taken with Viagra. So even if it is not prescribed medication, you can always ask a doctor for the correct use of the supplement if you really care for you and your partner.
