We were recently sent a book to review. We are a family of readers (except OH) so we were very excited to get reading 🙂
The first thing we all commented on was the Book cover, its really bright and vibrant. Plus all the ends of the pages are blue so it gives a great effect, It’s really eye catching.
First I read this book and I really enjoyed it. The only complaint I have is that every chapter leaves you wanting to read the next one, which can result in many late nights 🙂 It really does leave you in suspense. I normally find books a little slow to get into but I started to get into the book from chapter 2 🙂
Again the teenager wasn’t interested in reading it :-/ I promise we are a family of readers 🙂
My son Jordan (11) did read it though and he enjoyed it just as much as me.
We were both having conversations like “Oh remember when that bit happened?” It’s great to have something in common with my son, something I hope we can keep enjoying together.
So back onto the book, here is a little snippet of what the book is about;
House of Secrets by Chris Columbus and Ned Vizzini When Brendan, Cordelia and Nell move to Kristoff House they have no idea that they are about to unleash the dark magic locked within. For the house once belonged to a crazed writer, whose stories have come to life. Literally. Now the Walker kids must battle against deadly pirates, bloodthirsty warriors and a bone-crunching giant. If they fail they will never see their parents again and a power-mad Witch will take over the world. No pressure then.
It really is a book for all , I would say from 8 onwards. It is full of adventure and leaves from you wanting more after every chapter. It’s very hard to put down. J.K.ROWLING describes it as “A break-neck, jam packed, rollercoaster of an adventure” And I couldn’t agree more. I think if are a fan of the Harry potter books (really who isn’t?) then I am sure you would like this too. I have already ordered the second book in the trilogy 🙂
To celebrate the release of the paperback version of House of Secrets and on the 27th March 2014 the release of the second book in the trilogy, Battle of the Beasts, we have a copy of each book to give away.
