Word of the Week 21/8/14

This week is RELIEF. My OH finally finished building the wall in the back garden!

It’s such a relief because I don’t have to see the neighbours anymore!

Let me start from the beginning. Months ago when we had all those storms our fence in the back garden got demolished. We decided with the neighbours that we would build a brick wall. Our neighbours are elderly and we get on with them great. They understood that Tom had a full-time job and it wouldn’t be done straight away so everything started off ok. But having no wall between the two houses in the middle of summer when you’re out most days, started to get annoying.

Tom got to work and the gentleman next door helped (in a fashion) and obviously with him working full time it went up very slowly.
It all would’ve been fine if the next doors, well him in particular wasn’t so bloody annoying.
He regularly took it upon himself to just pop round the house and potter around in the garden with the bricks mixing cement ect without asking.
I would come downstairs in the morning, bearing in mind that we have no blinds in the kitchen yet and just find him in the garden. Or he would pop round at night and just mess about with the bricks, usually when Harry was in bed.
One morning we found him trying to build some of the wall himself! It took him 45 mins to build 4 bricks!

But finally the wall is done and there is no need for him to come round any more. Don’t get me wrong they are lovely people and we do get on with them but it’s nice to have some space 🙂

Hehe ahh congrats on your wall 🙂 it sounds like he might be a bit disappointed the wall has gone up. No more impromptu popping in! x

I can imagine your relief – even with lovely neighbours, having space is important! Glad your wall has been finally finished 🙂

  4. There is this book called hidden dimension that I have read before. In there there is an area where we feel safe and is ours and when people (no matter how nice they are) get inside that area we feel them trespassing. I am glad you got that space back. #wotw

  5. Oh no – how annoying! yes, lovely, but nice to not have them there any more! Thanks for sharing with #WotW x

  6. Goodness, that would have been a little annoying! Glad the wall is finished, but I imagine your neighbour will be slightly disappointed that he can’t play with the bricks anymore 🙂 #WotW

  11. Difficult situation. I know old people so often want to help and it hard when they can’t really do what they would have found easier and not that long ago either. Sounds like the wall will be a positive for both parties
